When shopping for the ideal residential HVAC system to buy, there is a good chance you’ve come across a wide range of options. These units are designed to keep spaces warm or cool, and you can customize them to fit specific temperature control needs.

As a quick reminder, ‘HVAC’ stands for Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning. It refers to any system that offers ventilation or temperature control for a space. To ensure you choose the ideal one for your home, below are some of the common types of residential HVAC systems and how they work.

Zoned System

With a zoned residential HVAC system, you have greater control over the temperature in separate rooms or areas in a building. There are numerous ways to zone ducted HVAC systems, and the best method often depends on the size of the building. Considering each system is separate, this type of zoning requires building owners to install two or more heating and cooling units.

Hybrid Split System

A hybrid spilt residential HVAC system has the same structure and cooling units as a split system. However, it doesn’t rely solely on gas to create heat. Even though its heater can burn gas, it can also switch to electric power. Electric heating tends to be slower and less powerful than gas-powered, but this option gives homeowners more control over the building’s energy consumption and can help reduce energy costs in milder climates.

Split Heating and Air Conditioning Systems

Split heating and air conditioning systems are the most common types you see in homes and can be easy to identify thanks to the presence of indoor and outdoor units. They work by having the cooling unit inside, which comprises of coils and compressors. Moreover, they have a heater that’s typically placed in storage space, mostly in the basement.

With the different types of residential HVAC systems, it is essential that you understand the pros and cons of each before deciding on anything. That way, it will only be a matter of time before you finally find the ideal one for your needs.
